Christian Lemmerz has achieved wide recognition for his work with sculpturing, drawing and performance arts. His work often shares the same dark themes and recurring existentialistic questions. Lemmerz has achieved the kind of recognition that most artists can only dream of, having had exhibitions across the world and received several honorary recognitions. Still he struggles with his self-esteem and is constant questioning himself on whether his art serves a purpose to its spectators or not.
In this portrait film we follow Christian Lemmerz throughout the process of creating the 3,5m tall bronze statue ‘Lazarus’. The work takes place in Pietrasanta, Italy. The village is where Lemmerz’ artistic abilities unfolds and where he goes to ponder and build up energy for his next work.
